“I don’t like the colour.” No, not a line from The Italian Job, but my mum, telling me the Fiesta test car I’d been waiting for had been delivered. I recently got to drive the all-new Kia Carens on UK roads for the first time. Believe it or not, I’d been elbows out to do this event, given my experience of shipping a growing family in my long-term Kia cee’d Sportswagon. Motoring Research editorial director Richard Aucock is racing a Mazda MX-5 at Silverstone today. He’ll be blogging live from the circuit as he goes. Read on for news of his progress: updates will appear at the top… When the mk1 VW Golf GTI was launched back in 1976 the car has defined a genre of fast hatchbacks that can thrill and excite, but still cut it with the likes of more luxurious and refined metal. A consummate all-rounder, then? Well, that’s what I’m hoping to find out on the launch of this latest mk7 version with the hallowed boot badge. Well, this should be an interesting one. I’m off to Siena in Italy to drive the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo – a car which strikes me as being BMW’s attempt at going back to the future. Hold on, you’re thinking. You’ve already done a First 5 Minutes with a Vauxhall Adam. And you’d be right. I’m on an electric car launch yet again – and I’m really enjoying drinking in how manufacturers are approaching the problem of pollution in different ways, coming up with similar but subtly different solutions as a result. I’ve driven two other EVs relatively recently – the new Renault Zoe and the updated 2013 Nissan Leaf. Both are pretty damn good. Today however, I’m currently on route to Sweden to try Volvo’s take on a zero tailpipe emissions vehicle with its updated C30 Electric. |
