Fantastic news from Nissan about developing and building the next generation Qashqai in the UK. And congratulations to the Nissan press office for getting the release out hours before BMW with its news about Mini production.
But I am guessing that most excited will be the designers…
The new car will be shaped by Nissan Design Europe out of Paddington (that’s London for our non-UK readers) and engineered at Nissan’s tech center in Cranfield (that’s Bedfordshire, somewhere near London).
Now, let’s be frank, the original Qashqai sold despite its looks. It had all the style of an art college first-year project, where the tutor mistakenly pulled the winner from the wrong end of the pile.
It was a committee job, and we all know that’s how you get a camel. Sure the facelift was done in the UK and it was an improvement. But silk purse and all that.
So there’s a massive opportunity here to build a new Qashqai that looks great as well as hitting the family crossover buyer right on the nail. Go for it Nissan. Just do take on board how well the Juke has gone down with the general public….
